The Challenge

We were contacted by a home owner to investigate several issues with a Loxone Smart Home solution recently installed. The technology was intended to handle a wide variety of tasks, such as control the temperature settings and manage a Tesla Powerwall system. However, despite several attempts by other electrical firms, the system did not function correctly. The result was energy savings were not being realised and the owner was not enjoying the comfort and convenience that a Loxone solution is famous for delivering.

Undertaking fault finding and tuning Loxone systems is not a new request for us, and so we visited the property to diagnose the issues preventing the owner from enjoying the full benefits of their Loxone Smart Home system.

Bringing Smart Technology to life

An initial diagnosis revealed the causes behind the system not functioning correctly. By amending the installation, and proving a clear walk-through to the customer, they were able to begin enjoying the benefits of Smart Technology.

The difference we made to their installation gave the customer the confidence to further integrate smart technology into their home. So, we were asked to expand the system, install additional solar panels, and introduce a battery backup in the case of mains power failure. This involved the following:

  • Upgrade the PV solar system to 5KwH
  • 5kWh of battery storage and gateway for backup
  • Set up variable load device for the two hot water immersion heaters
  • Install meters on the immersion heaters, heat pump, PV solar and several pumps in the plant rooms, including for the swimming pool
  • Undertake specialist programming to optimise the system so it could determine what fittings would switch on or off, and how long they stayed they operated.

The Result

The customer now has a Loxone system which performs as expected. Electrical services are monitored and perform automatically when required. In addition, the energy bills were sharply reduced. Before we began, the customer was faced with a bill totalling £12,000 per year. With our help, this has been squeezed down to as little as £2,100.

Delighted with how Loxone can make home living so effortless, the customer has now asked Newbury Electrical Services to further expand their system to another aspect of their swimming pool. Previously, the water filters needed to be manually inspected to check they were effective. Newbury Electrical Services has introduced smart monitoring to check on filter performance. When they begin to degrade, the customer is alerted. This gives them valuable time to request replacement filters from their local supplier.
