The Challenge

The sharp hikes in energy prices during recent years has made it more important than ever to improve how energy is used in the home. This has made smart technology more attractive to many people. One customer to Newbury Electrical Services was particularly hit hard with the rise in energy prices; their five-bedroom home used a conventional gas central heating system for warmth. As a result, it consumed a large amount of the energy and their bills were spiralling.

We were asked to provide a range of solutions which would help cut energy consumption without compromising comfort and convenience.

The Solution

To manage the temperature more efficiently throughout the home, Loxone sensors were fitted in each room. These were augmented with thermostatic valves, also from Loxone, fitted to all the radiators. The resulting network was then programmed to heat individual rooms only when needed, and an app gave the owners a simple view of the temperature within each room.

The Result

With flexible and individual control of every room in the home, the owner could reduce energy consumption to a more manageable level. As a result, the new installation undertaken with Loxone saved the homeowner around £750 in the first winter alone following our work – meaning the new technology would pay for itself within 5 years.
