The Challenge
Our customer presented five challenges for the nursery:
- To have temperature controls so that the room could be maintained at the recommended temperature for a baby – which is 16.5°C at night and 19°C in the day.
- The room to have automated blinds which close depending on when the sun is shining into the room or when it is dark.
- To have a sound system so that soothing music could be played for the baby (and mother).
- To have a light system which has several functions:
– Coloured lights for visual stimulation for the baby.
– Dim lights for the mother to enter the room and check on the baby without waking them. - With convenience being key – everything had to be neat and tidy and easy to use.
Solution
The first requirement was met by installing a Touch Pure switch, which has a built in temperature sensor, this communicates with the Loxone main processor (the Miniserver). A switch relay from the Miniserver controls the boiler and a Loxone Actuator opens the underfloor heating zone. If the temperature strayed outside of the set requirements i.e. boiler failure, a notification is sent to the users mobile phone.
The second requirement involved installing a Qmotion roller blind with a Loxone RS485 extension. The system was programmed with the window orientation and the Loxone system is linked to the weather forecast. When the sun is in the right position and the room temperature increases (sensed by the Loxone temperature sensor mentioned above) the blind closes. The Touch Pure switch can also be used to manually control the blind. The Loxone system also takes data from the Loxone Weather Service and closes the blind when it is dark.
The third requirement, relating to the sound system, consists of a Loxone 7″ ceiling speaker which is interfaced with Loxone stereo extension. This is controlled by the Touch Pure switch or Loxone App on the mobile phone.
The fourth requirement has been fulfilled by the Loxone RGBW spot lights, which were fitted in the ceiling, together with RGBW compact with LED tape. This provides a multitude of colours and brightness levels. The system is programmed with a night mode, which brings on a dim blue light so as not to wake the baby, and day mode which monitors the natural light in the room using the Loxone Presence Sensor and only illuminates it if necessary depending on presence and natural light levels.
With the fifth requirement being fulfilled by keeping the entire system neat and tidy with only one Touch Pure switch on the wall and one ceiling mounted presence sensor.
