Avoid your Christmas Going Wrong – Lets make it restful
20.12.2024
After what has been a year I doubt any of us will forget in a hurry, Christmas is almost upon us. We will be closing the office but you can contact us for emergencies during the break. While you hopefully have a restful and joyous time, it’s worth mentioning the festive season does come with a few hazards. Combined with the cold weather, Christmas asks a lot of even the best domestic electrical network. For a system in poorer health, it can bring a lovely day to a very sudden end. So let’s take a brief look at what you need to check before the festivities begin.
First on the list is your heating. Having a big spread on Christmas day is great, but keeping warm must be your first objective. Already we have been called out to resolve a lot of heating issues, mainly around underfloor installations, thermostats, and pumps and boilers. If your heating has been at all temperamental, it really is a god idea to have it checked over before everyone takes some time off.
Now you can think about the kitchen. Christmas day sees nearly every electrical appliance dusted off and given a whirl. Add in an oven busy with a big turkey and you have a recipe for circuits tripping. This gets even more likely if you have any sockets that don’t work reliably. A good idea is to do a little bit of planning ahead and stagger some of the prep to reduce load.
Which becomes a really good idea when you realise how much power will be consumed in the rest of your home. With multiple televisions on along with toys and games in full flow, plus various lighting inside and out, any weak spots will be ruthlessly exposed very quickly. It goes without saying you should never leave electrical appliances left switched on unattended, and Christmas this is quite possibly the best advice anyone can give you.
But if you are at all concerned about any part of your electrical network, the best suggestion we can make is to just ask us to pop round to have a look for you. So often, we find a small issue is easy to fix – and means you don’t end up with a much bigger issue just when you need everything working perfectly. And from a very selfish perspective, while we are available for emergency calls over Christmas, we would much sooner be enjoying The Italian Job after a big meal.
To get one of our expert electricians to check your domestic – or business – electrical network, just get in touch by phone or email and we’ll get a date sorted. And let’s make sure your Christmas is restful, fun and peaceful.
